Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback
Hello. As our community grows, there is inevidably bound to be some tension and differences of opinion as to how some situations should be handled. Recently, a couple of issues have come up that were handled in an inconsistent manner, or a manner that may have made some users unhappy. Please know that we are doing our best to make this site as fun of a place as possible for a wide variety of people. If you feel that an admin or community leader has treated you unfairly, please free to write the adin account. But please also realize the position that our community leaders are put in. Sometimes, situations will happen that require immediate attention, and sometimes the decisions that are made may not make everyone happy. But I urge you not to blame the community leaders for this. Much of this stems from the fact that we have no guidelines for the CL's and admins on how to handle certain problems on the site, so they may be handled differently in different situations. As you know, we don't wish to have a mound of rules and regulations on this site, because we wish to encourage the free flow of ideas. To this end, we hope taht you'll allow others who have differing viewpoints to express theirs as well, as much as you might not agree with it. There are a few things that we will be writing out that have been assumed rules but not made clear. These are things like having multiple accounts, which some people have but we don't allow.
I hope you'll stay with us during some of our growing pains, and help us to make a better Zone BBS. Please feel free to reply to this thread with any comments and suggestions, but I ask that you please don't mention specific people by name. Thanks for reading, and have a great week.
How can you tell if someone has multiple identities? Or do you mean different identities with the same email address?
Good question, I wanna know that too.
You could tell based on email address but more likely based on IP address, both are very good indicators, not necessarily 100% but close to it.
Admin, the only comment I have towards this is that I understand the growing pains of the site but I would ask that it'd be made a specific policy that community leaders cannot use their power in any way to twist discussions in their favor, especially e.g. lock discussions or erase posts just because they have problems with such posts personally. Whether it has happened or not is irrelevant here, I'm just saying as a matter of principle I feel this is very important. Being a community leader is a necessity to keep things civilized around here and I respect the work they do to keep the site alive but they must also adhere to guidelines and the most basic responsibilities and not ever use their privelleges for a personal gain of any sort. I hope this is an agreeable policy and will be respected.
I know things can get heated and a lot of us are to blame for either over reacting or willingly get other to over react but over all I think this has been a pretty good experience and we're all relatively happy together as a community.
Good job, as always.
Cheers

Hi j,
well, since I've been in chat situations, I've pretty much had to handle issues I have, or issues people have with me on my own. I'm not saying I always handled them well, probably not, but I handled them the only way I could think of at the time. A topic was locked last night, because it was stated, thisthread has gone so totally off topic, that another community leader and I have decided to lock it. Threads have gone off topic before many times, andno one even considered locking them. I have started reading or bypassing posts in a topic, depending on who the poster is, and the manner I think they will respond. I think the community leader locked it, because he sensed his posts were being skipped over and others not, he didn't like it, so he probably decided to lock it so no one could reply. I wonder if community leaders can still reply to a locked topic? if so, that would mean they use their power to keep dishing someone, and the person being dished couldn't reply or offer words in his/her defence. Thank you,
wonderwoman
sorry, a slight typo, I don't mean all community leaders would do this, I just meant that if a community leader could reply to a locked topic, he could continue to verbally thrash someone, and the person being thrashed couldn't say anything back.
wonderwoman
I agree ww but you also have to see it if they locked and they do reply to it i think another cl should do something put the person in check of course your older than me and know more about the world than i do
but still back to topic i think certain boards should be blocked from people under 18 and certain boards blocked to us adaults except the cls but they should only be allowed to monitor them not post to them just a thought to keep the kids safe
Hi metalica_girl,
Thanks, well, I haven't been in chat situations all my life, and I don't claim to be worldly, no way, but I think if the subject line is deliberately meant to offend another user in a derogatory way, it should be removed, just my opinion. I agree with you, but we can't do anything. I think in the end, the parents have to monitor the younger ones and make sure they don't get in to r rated stuff.
wonderwoman
Right, understood. We'll also be puttin in some measures to keep people accountable for their actions in case someone decided to overstep their bounds, not that it would ever happen.
Thanks j, in the end, you and 2 other community leaders, they know who they are, are the only ones who matter when it comes to topics being posted in more than one board, posts getting off topic, whichever. Thanks again,
wonderwoman
btw, j, if and when I get dsl lite, one of the community leaders has graciously offered to put a 40+ room on ventrilo. If and when I get it and can get on the voice chat server, I would like to post and find out how many 40+ zoners there actually are here, who do and don't post in topics, but maybe who read the boards. I would want to find out how many of these would be interested in it before I would tell the community leader, or rather ask themto put it there. I would like to post it both in safe haven and lets talk, just to make sure the word gets to as many older zoners as possible, but I would of course ask your permission before doing it, since some people don't like it when someone posts the same message in more than one board. This has never bothered me, especially since I don't read all the boards, so I might miss something byit being posted in one board. I think it's a good way to promote something, just in case there are others who like me, don't use the topics with new posts link. After all, if I read it once, I don't have to read it more than once, but just my 2 cents worth.
wonderwoman. This wouldn't be until March, if then.
Question: What happens to those who have multiple idenities?
Hi J. Well said! I think all the CL's on here are hard workers, that do their job well, and they should only be applauded for all they do. Just because some people get out of hand, and thus get punished, there's no reason to blame the CL's! Lol. Rock on everyone! Caitlin
maybe this is slightly off topic so if it is I apologise, but as i write, a user by the name "fuckman" has just logged on to the site. Now personally I could care less what people call themselves, but we have young and impressionable users on here, and I think that a username like that could cause great offence to some. is there anything in place to stop people, or to identify names like that that are clearly in bad taste?
hi J and all the CLs. thanks for the great job in this website. nothing much i can say here. just want to thanks for the great job and i strongly believe that all of you guys have do your best. this what i personally can feel it very strong. well, be a comunity leader is not something easy. no metter how you guys have bring the success to this website. all the works that all the CLs do, all of us know and can feel it. well, all the CLs still have their own works to do, i strongly hope that don't give them the prasure. this is a site for fun and relax. same to all the CLs as well. they need a warm place not something with prasure. i personally think that work with prasure is not something can last for long. ones again, thanks to all the CLs. i appreciate you guys alot. i'm not saying that they are the best, but just try to stand at their side. if i'm one of them, what i will feel? this is the question we as a member should as back to ourself. with study or work, with all the stress and prasure, and still need to care for this website... is not something easy. thanks. cheers: season
As much as I agree with what most people said that comunitty leaders have done a great job and worked very hard to maintain this site and need to be congratulated on it, I am also very disappointed in a way with which certain comunitty leaders handle situations on here, I am particularly refering to those who, for example, delete peoples posts/topic or ban people from ventrilo *only* because they disagree with views/opinions of these persons or they simply do not like them. I think this is totally wrong and is blatened obuse of admin powers and should be looked at.
InternetKing that is blatant censorship and it means that the blurb we are given about "having the freedom of speech and we encourage diverse personalities and a good exchange of opinion" is lies!
Where was I when this fuckman person logged on? I might've been in another planet. Lol
Hi All. Just wanted to write and say that, while I think locking topic or whatever is kind of unfair sometimes, sometiems it can be necessary. For example, swearing in Safe Haven warrants deletion of posts, because that's against the rules of the site. But someone locking a topic just cuz they disagree with it isn't very appropriate. However, I think it's for Admin to govern these situations with the CL's, cuz it's not like we can do anything about it and what not. But I think that the freedom of speech bit, all in all, is carried out fairly well on thsi site. Oftentimes too well lol jk.
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuv, if you said we don't have an y lives then why did you register?... and well I didn't know this did happen; locking posts is fisrtly disrespectful since you cannot use any words in your personal defence, secondly its something "that goes against rules since it demonstrates someone is abusing their powers and thirdly it also goes against the website because this is a zone where everyone has opinions and freedom of speech.
I thank all these who contributed to the zone, this such wonderful place that although is becoming more restricted for its abuse its still a great place to stay or be into.
How do you lock a topic anyways?
I have really enjoyed this site. It takes away some of the stress that builds up during the day, in school, and at home. One thing that I am wondering iss is there a way to remove a link that I have created? Say if I had changed my mind on what I was posting and I wanted to remove it or modify it, is there a way to do that? If not, I think that would be something to consider adding to the site. I would not want other people to modify it, yet I would like to modify the post, just like we can modify our profiles.
You all are doing a wonderful job keeping this site. Thank you for making this possible to hang out with friends all around the world.
Thanks,
Lordlover
I have to run to clas, but real quick, what do the CL's do anyway? How are they different then admin? Thanks, John
First, Lordlover, you can't delete posts or edit them , I venture to estimate it's a safety precaution. Cmitchell, locking a topic is when no one can view it or post to it anymore, I think. And JH, a community leader is kind of like an admin only they dont' hav quite as many responsibilities and htey dont' have as much access to the sites' innards as teh admins do, obviously. They are also kind of the law enforcers that keep an eye on things nad let admin know when thigns are messed up, and they also have the power to fix thigns on the site, sometimes, if they have the tools to do so. Hope this helps. Caitlin
Locking topics won't happen again just for the topic straying off course. We've had a CL meeting, so some things are more straightened out now. We honestly aren't much more restrictive than we've been before.
Ah. Thanks Admin. I know this locked topics was making some people mad ... I'd no problem with it but sure lol.
